Charlatan, can you show us photos of how it looked?

I am cringing now as I have licenced a '73 CB 500 in my name, with no disc as COR is pending (Cost me R2500 or so due to the PO's dishonesty and nearly 3 years of back-licence) and I am also restoring before getting the COR etc sorted.

Did you ever get any clarification on the removal of the microdots?

Look, it's basically similar to a clear epoxy which they brush on. I didn't bother cleaning mine very well as I'm still going to restore it, so I guess dirt / rust specks got trapped and mixed in the epoxy. Lesson: clean it as well as you can before going for microdotting if you don't intend on stripping/restoring it afterwards.

Even if you do that though, I'm pretty sure you'll notice it on polished aluminium, as applying any kind of clear coat on aluminium changes the finish. And that's before any yellowing sets in from standing in the sun...

As for removal, I got no answer that made sense. Everyone was saying there's no way you're going to be able to remove all of it. Well... I don't think they've heard of sand / bead /soda blasting!
